Barriers to Education

Practical Tools
for adults

The following tools and resources have been developed to support adults in identifying and addressing barriers to education for young people, particularly those experiencing extended non-attendance. They are designed to be used reflectively and collaboratively, helping professionals and families to explore challenges, plan support, and take practical next steps. While these tools were created as part of the Barriers to Education project, we welcome feedback and examples of other approaches, especially where they align with the WARMTH principles, so that this resource can continue to grow and evolve.

Confidentiality and information sharing

When using these tools, it’s important to be clear about how information will be recorded, stored and shared. Adults should know what will remain confidential and when information may need to be shared more widely, for example to ensure safety or coordinate support. Being transparent about this process from the outset helps build trust and ensures collaboration is respectful and effective.
